Abstract:

This study examined young widows of killed-in-action 7ID Kaugnay personnel, primarily aged between late twenties and early thirties. While providing valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by this demographic, the absence of older participants limited a comprehensive understanding of widowhood experiences. Nonetheless, focusing on this group enabled tailored support programs to acknowledge their resilience and coping mechanisms in the face of profound loss. The widows' diverse marital durations, ranging from months to over a decade, reflected varying degrees of attachment and influenced grieving processes and coping strategies. Moreover, the majority being college graduates suggested potential implications for coping mechanisms and employment opportunities. Their educational backgrounds equipped them with essential skills to navigate widowhood, highlighting the need for tailored support programs. Occupational diversity among widows underscored varied socioeconomic backgrounds and challenges based on their professions. From military service to homemaking, understanding these backgrounds was vital for developing initiatives such as job training and financial assistance. Despite emotional and practical hurdles, widows exhibited resilience in managing daily responsibilities, navigating family dynamics, and seeking support networks, emphasizing their strength and adaptability in adversity.
