Political Awareness Education for Vietnamese University Students in the Context of Digital Transformation: Theoretical and Practical Perspectives
Author(s): Pham Thi Hai Yen
Abstract:
Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving digital landscape, cyberspace is fundamentally reshaping the socio-cultural environment and the political socialization of youth. This study examines the dialectical impact of digital transformation on the formation of political awareness among Vietnamese university students and proposes strategic approaches to optimize political theory education. Utilizing a qualitative research design based on in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, the findings reveal the dual effects of the digital ecosystem. On the one hand, it dismantles the traditional monopoly on information, broadens access channels, and fosters students' active engagement and democratic participation. Conversely, it introduces substantial risks of ideological fragmentation, exacerbated by the proliferation of misinformation and the manipulation of algorithmic "echo chambers." To navigate these challenges, this paper proposes four transformative interventions: the multimodal integration of pedagogical materials; a paradigm shift toward AI- and Big Data-driven multidirectional interaction; the construction of an internal digital political-cultural ecosystem; and, crucially, the cultivation of "digital political literacy." These findings offer critical practical implications for higher education institutions, providing a robust empirical foundation for reforming educational policies and digital pedagogies. Ultimately, this paradigm shift in political education not only equips students with ideological resilience to navigate the digital space but also cultivates an intellectually grounded and socially responsible generation prepared to steer national development in the new era.
