Assessing Tourist Satisfaction with Bac Ninh as a Tourism Destination

Tourist satisfaction is widely accepted as the most immediate behavioural outcome of destination performance and the strongest single predictor of revisit and recommendation intentions. Bac Ninh, a province in Vietnam's Northern midlands that was substantially enlarged by the administrative merger of July 2025, holds one of the densest concentrations of cultural heritage in the country, yet it continues to function largely as a low-yield, day-trip destination on the periphery of Hanoi. This study measures tourist satisfaction with Bac Ninh at the attribute level, identifies which destination attributes drive overall satisfaction, and translates the findings into a prioritised improvement agenda. Data were collected through on-site intercept surveys at eight major attractions between February and April 2026, producing 412 usable questionnaires. A 26-item, six-dimensional attribute battery was validated through exploratory factor analysis and reliability testing, and the relationships among attributes, overall satisfaction and behavioural intentions were estimated using multiple regression analysis. Overall satisfaction was moderate (M = 3.71 on a five-point scale), with a pronounced internal imbalance: cultural and heritage attractions were rated highly (M = 4.18) whereas tourism service quality (M = 3.40) and accommodation and food and beverage provision (M = 3.38) were the weakest. Five of the six attribute dimensions exerted statistically significant effects on satisfaction, jointly explaining 68.5% of its variance, with cultural and heritage attractions (beta = 0.330) and service quality (beta = 0.259) dominating; accessibility contributed least (beta = 0.066). Satisfaction in turn explained 54.1% of the variance in behavioural intentions. A derived importance-performance analysis identifies service quality and accommodation and catering as the priority intervention domains. The study contributes attribute-level evidence on an understudied class of heritage-based, near-metropolitan destinations and offers destination managers a defensible sequence for allocating limited resources.
