Abstract:
This study looks at how households in Lukupa Ward, Northern Zambia, cope with drought in maize farming. It examines strategies like food rationing, crop diversification, temporary migration, early warning systems, and community resource sharing, and how these affect maize yields and food security. Using surveys and interviews, the research shows that effectiveness depends on education, gender, access to support, and finances. Challenges like poor infrastructure, weak extension services, and reliance on donor aid limit long-term success. The study recommends combining local knowledge, stronger institutions, and socio-economic support to help households better withstand droughts.
