Abstract:

The socio-economic development of communities depends heavily on the active involvement of all stakeholders, with women playing an increasingly central role. In the municipality of Zogbodomey, women are gradually asserting themselves as key players in local progress, whether in agriculture, trade, education, health or community governance. The overall objective of this research is to analyse the influence of women on the socio-economic development of the municipality of Zogbodomey through their roles, initiatives and contribution to local growth. The qualitative approach adopted combines the analysis of secondary data from existing documents with the collection of primary data obtained in the field through individual interviews. The results reveal that women in Zogbodomey make a significant economic contribution, although this is often under-recognised in official statistics. Their involvement is evident in various sectors such as agriculture, trade, crafts and services. However, structural barriers – such as limited access to productive resources, training and financing – limit the scope of their impact. The research highlights the need to strengthen public policies promoting women's economic empowerment in order to boost sustainable local development in the municipality.
