Abstract:
General Physics 1 is a challenging subject for many Grade 12 STEM students at Young Achievers’ School of Caloocan, Inc. However, several students struggle to comprehend the lessons concerning topics related to Physics, as it involves complex lessons with a mix of Mathematics in which the students also struggle with. Thus, the researchers proposed the Buddy-System as a tool to aid the struggling students in the said subject. To prove its effectiveness in teaching and learning, an experimentation on the efficacy of the Buddy-System was soon conducted through the usage of survey questionnaires, intervention, along with pre-tests, and post-tests to the 40 Grade 12 STEM student research participants (N=40) with the ultimate purpose of collecting data to be used in measuring and determining their knowledge, insight, and scores with and without the implementation of the Buddy-System. Using the data at hand after conducting the intervention and experimentation, the computation on the t-test hypothesis testing proceeded, then showed results that signified the difference between the scores of the experimental (with buddy-system) and control group (without intervention) (T>2.042). Aside from this, the survey questionnaire results showed that the application of the Buddy-System is not only efficient in improving academic performance. It also affects psychological aspects of the students, such as motivation, collaboration, and effective communication. Therefore, based on the overall findings, the researchers then concluded that the Buddy-System is an effective tool for achieving academic excellence in General Physics 1 and in improving interpersonal skills with others.
