Translating the Vietnamese Word “Ai” into Modern Chinese: An Analysis Based on The Adventures of a Criket

This paper examines the characteristics of the Vietnamese word “ai” from a functional linguistics perspective, focusing on its semantic features. It investigates the usage of “ai” in Tô Hoài's The Adventures of a Cricket and compares it with its translations into modern Chinese in the corresponding translated work. Employing contrastive analysis and descriptive methods, this study aims to clarify the semantic functions and cultural differences expressed in both languages.
