Management of Conflict in the Public Sector in Delta State: A Case Study of Waste Management Board, Asaba

Abstract:
Conflict in the public sector is inevitable because it is a social systems filled with different groups of human beings from different religions, cultures, opinions, attitudes etc. Interestingly, this study examines the management of conflict in the public sector of Delta state with particular reference to waste management Board, Asaba. The following serves as the objectives of the study: To ascertain if conflict is managed transparently in Waste Management Board; to find out if effective conflict management will positively affect workers/employees of Waste Management Board and to find out different measures to be adopted to strengthen management of conflict in Waste Management Board. The study made use of survey research which relied on questionnaire as the instrument for data collection in the field study. The data generated were computed into tables and subjected to simple percentage computation and chi-square analysis. The results of the study showed that conflicts are managed transparently in the waste management board. Also, effective conflict management will positively affect workers/employees of waste management board and finally, appointment of personnel of proven integrity will help to dispense justice in waste management board. Therefore, the study recommends that the government should make sure that the private sector participation (PSPs) that are enlisted in waste disposal are actively carried along during major decision makings for effective and efficient results.
