Abstract:

Language as a tool in Accreditation and quality assurance are critical components of maintaining and enhancing the standards of tertiary education. This paper explores the essential elements embedded in language for the accreditation and quality assurance in tertiary institutions, not neglecting the definitions, processes, purpose, importance etc. It examines the functions of regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in ensuring compliance with educational standards. It equally identifies key challenges, such as inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, insufficient qualified staff, and inconsistent policy implementation, which hinder effective quality assurance, proposing actionable strategies such as increased funding, capacity building, technological integration, and stakeholder collaboration to address these issues. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of language in sustaining efforts in accreditation and quality assurance to achieve excellence in tertiary education and contribute to national development. It contributes to the ongoing discourse on Language education, and provides recommendations for policymakers, administrators, and stakeholders in the higher education sector.
