The Impact of Public Health Education on Reducing Maternal Mortality among Mothers Attending AMURT Health Facilities in Ebonyi State

Abstract:
The study aimed to assess the impact of public health education on reducing maternal mortality among mothers attending in AMURT-assisted health facility in Ebonyi State. The study adopted a survey method using a structured questionnaire covering the causes of maternal mortality and the impact of public health education on improving the maternal health practices of mothers. A total of 1733 participated in the study. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS. Regarding the factors contributing to maternal mortality, the findings indicated that 28.72% of women cited limited access to healthcare services, while 24.06% identified lack of prenatal and postnatal care as significant issues. Cultural and societal factors were highlighted by 18.85% of respondents. Additionally, poverty or financial constraints were noted by 7.10% as primary contributors to maternal mortality in the state. The study found that 51.32% of participants reported an improvement in maternal health practices due to AMURT's education programs. AMURT's public health education initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing maternal health awareness and influencing healthcare-seeking behavior among mothers in Ebonyi State. Effective educational content that is relevant and actionable is essential for achieving significant behavioral changes.
