Abstract:
Using data from GSS 2022, this study investigates the factors influencing participation in artistic activities, identifying educational attainment, race, political ideology, and citizenship status as significant determinants. Consistent with prior research, educational attainment emerges as a crucial predictor, likely due to the exposure to various artistic experiences and the development of relevant appreciation and participation skills imparted through education. Similarly, race significantly influences artistic participation, with minorities showing a greater likelihood of engagement, possibly due to cultural exposure and interest. Interestingly, political ideology also plays a notable role, with individuals holding liberal ideologies demonstrating higher participation, potentially reflecting their value for diversity and inclusion, themes often prevalent in art. Citizenship status further contributes to this complex dynamic, impacting individuals' involvement in the arts. This study provides insights into the multifaceted nature of artistic engagement, emphasizing the importance of diverse factors in understanding cultural participation.
