Abstract:
Idioms, the vibrant lifeblood of any language, transcend literal interpretation to encapsulate cultural wisdom, values, and worldview. Comparative idioms, employing structures like "as X as Y" or their equivalents, offer particularly rich ground for cross-cultural exploration. This article delves into the fascinating world of English and Vietnamese comparative idioms, moving beyond surface translation to uncover the profound cultural reflections embedded within their imagery. By analyzing common themes, divergent metaphors, and underlying values, we reveal how these seemingly simple phrases act as potent windows into the distinct agricultural, historical, social, and philosophical landscapes of their respective cultures.
