The Current Situation of Students’ Overdependence on AI and the Neglect of Traditional Learning Methods
Author(s): Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Cao Thi Tra My
Abstract:
In the age of digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a prominent tool in higher education. Many students increasingly rely on AI-based applications such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and translation tools for their academic work. While these technologies offer undeniable convenience and support, an overreliance on them may result in the decline of traditional learning methods like note-taking, reading textbooks, and critical thinking. This research explores the current trends of AI usage among university students, analyzes the impact on conventional study habits, and evaluates both the benefits and the risks of such dependency. The findings are based on survey data and interviews with students and educators. The study concludes with recommendations on how to maintain a healthy balance between AI use and traditional learning to promote long-term academic success.
