Abstract:

Pregnant women face malnutrition problems in the province of Cibitoke. Maternal nutrition focuses its activities on women as mothers. It focuses on their nutritional status with the sole objective of ensuring the well-being of the child. Despite interventions that focus on maternal and child health, malnutrition among pregnant women persists under the influence of various factors. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among pregnant women who consulted for their pregnancy at the Cibitoke Health Center with the aim of determining their nutritional and hematological profile, and identifying the factors associated with their weight deficit. This study was carried out during the year 2024 and involved 183 pregnant women received in prenatal consultation 1. Data were analyzed with SPPS 25.0 software using an α error threshold of 5%. We found a prevalence of overall underweight of 26.2% with severe underweight of 8.7%. Anemia was found in 42.1% of the women surveyed. In multivariate analysis, the factors associated with underweight in pregnant women were: Anemia (p-value = 0.034; CI = 95%), individual dietary diversity score (IDDS) (p= 0.022; CI = 95%), history of malaria (p= 0.002; CI = 95%), interbirth interval (p= 0.001; CI = 95%), number of children living in the household (p= 0.006; CI = 95%) and age of pregnant women (p = 0.011; CI = 95%).
