The Participation of Youths in Politics in Plateau State: A Study of Jos North

Author(s): Rev. Stephen Hosea Vongdip, Jock Matthew Agai

Abstract:

This research is a study of the responses of political parties to youths’ involvement in politics. It covers the role of the youths in political parties’ affairs, electioneering campaigns, voting and engagements in occupying political appointments. Using a quantitative research method, the researchers explained that the level of youths’ participation in the activities of political parties is mostly channeled to mobilization and protests. This hypothesis is necessary because the researchers used an open-ended questionnaire and administered it to some members and leaders of some political parties in Jos North. One of the major contributions of this research to knowledge is that, the researchers advocated that youths’ participation in the activities of political parties in Plateau state has been localized to mere mobilization and peaceful or non-peaceful protests in the interest of the popular and older politicians. The primary variable in this research is the perception of political parties in their programs that involves youths’ participation.
