Abstract:
This paper examines the theories and applications of emotional regulation, focusing on evidence-based mental wellness and behaviour therapy (MWBT) approaches to support children’s development. It explores key factors influencing emotional regulation and presents neuroscience-informed strategies, including psychoeducation, cognitive reappraisal, mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These strategies are discussed from the perspective of an educational therapist, with a focus on how they enhance self-awareness, emotional resilience, and adaptive behavior in children. Continuity in skill application across therapy, home, school, and community settings is also discussed using the Family-School-Hospital (FiSH) model as a framework for collaboration. By adopting an integrated approach, educational therapists can effectively promote emotional resilience and foster academic and social success in children.
