Abstract:
Double aortic arch (DAA) is the most common form of vascular ring anomalies, causing compression of the trachea and esophagus, often leading to respiratory distress and feeding difficulties in infancy. We report a case of a 5-month-old female who presented with persistent biphasic stridor since birth, initially misdiagnosed as laryngomalacia. The infant developed severe respiratory distress due to bronchiolitis, requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation. Further imaging confirmed a double aortic arch with significant tracheoesophageal compression. Due to ongoing respiratory compromise post-extubation, the patient was referred for surgical correction. This case underscores the importance of considering vascular rings in infants with unexplained stridor and highlights the role of early imaging and surgical intervention in improving patient outcomes.
