An Economic Hub for Fish Trade in the Municipality of Bulan, Sorsogon

The study focused on determining the feasibility of establishing an economic hub of fish trade in the municipality of Bulan, Sorsogon and knowing what the needed facilities are to establish an economic hub for fish trade. The respondents of the study are the registered fisherfolks and 8 government agencies that are involved in the fish trade activities in Bulan, Sorsogon. The researcher employed Slovin’s Formula to calculate the sample size needed to randomly select potential respondents for the study. A total of 390 respondents and 8 government agencies were interviewed and surveyed. The study revealed that Bulan, Sorsogon has the potential to establish an economic hub for Fish trade since the result of the study tells that it is feasible to establish one. In terms of infrastructure development, the local government of Bulan, Sorsogon took some necessary steps like creating farm to market roads, fish landing areas and the establishment of a regional fish port in Bulan. There are also 2 canning factories in Bulan, Sorsogon. Sorsogon. In terms of fish resources Bulan Regional Fish port generated 1500 metric tons or 15,000,000 kilos of fish per week according to the Philippine Fisheries development authority meaning in terms of raw material and natural resources, Bulan, Sorsogon can support an Economic hub for fish trade. The findings also revealed that Bulan Sorsogon must improve its organizational and management of the Fish trade activities in the municipality. Since during the feasibility study it got the lowest score resulting only to fairly feasible. Bulan has a very good potential to establish an economic hub for fish trade. It just needs to establish more ice plants and cold storage facilities and improve its organization and management.
