Abstract:

Platelet function plays a critical role in maintaining hemostasis and preventing pathological thrombosis. This review explores current knowledge and emerging strategies to enhance platelet function for improved management of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders. The platelet activation and aggregation mechanisms are examined, highlighting key signaling pathways and factors influencing these processes. Current therapeutic approaches, including antiplatelet drugs and their limitations, are discussed, along with novel targets such as protease-activated receptors and genetic interventions. Innovations in drug development, including nanotechnology and targeted delivery systems, are explored for their potential to optimize platelet function while minimizing adverse effects. Clinical implications focus on strategies to enhance hemostasis in surgical and trauma patients, manage thrombotic disorders effectively, and advance personalized medicine through tailored treatments based on individual platelet profiles. Future research needs include identifying genetic markers and further elucidating complex platelet interactions to refine therapeutic strategies. Ultimately, improving platelet function holds promise for reducing cardiovascular events and enhancing patient outcomes, underscoring the importance of integrating new therapies into clinical practice.
