Abstract:
Enhancing innate immune responses against viral infections is a burgeoning area of research aimed at bolstering the body's initial defense mechanisms. This review explores recent advances and challenges in leveraging innate immunity, focusing on immunomodulatory drugs, genetic and epigenetic modifications, and novel vaccination strategies. Immunomodulatory agents, including Toll-like receptor agonists and interferon-stimulating agents, aim to amplify innate immune signaling pathways crucial for antiviral defense. Genetic editing technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9, offer precision in enhancing immune responses by targeting key regulatory genes. Epigenetic modifications present a promising avenue for modulating immune cell function without altering DNA sequences. Additionally, innovative vaccination approaches that stimulate innate immune pathways alongside adaptive immunity can potentially improve vaccine efficacy against viral pathogens. Challenges such as balancing immune activation and regulation, addressing safety concerns, and overcoming viral evasion strategies are discussed. Future directions include integrating emerging technologies, optimizing translational research efforts, and advancing clinical applications to harness the full potential of innate immunity in combating viral infections.
