Assessment of Liver Function Parameters using Remote Monitoring Devices on Hepatitis B Patients
Author(s): Ajet Folakemi Damilola
Abstract:
Hepatitis B management presents challenges, particularly in ensuring access to care for geographically undeserved populations. This review investigates the potential of remote monitoring technologies to improve Hepatitis B management. The study explores the accuracy, impact on assessment frequency, and patient acceptance of telemedicine and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) devices. The study suggests that telemedicine consultations achieve comparable results to in-person visits for liver health assessments, but highlight the need for broader evaluations of device accuracy. Telehealth interventions significantly increased consultation rates and patient engagement, potentially leading to earlier detection of complications. The study also demonstrates high patient satisfaction and preference for telemedicine, suggesting good acceptability and usability. Challenges affecting implementation include limitations in funding, dedicated healthcare provider time, and ensuring internet access in remote areas. Addressing these issues and further research on cost-effectiveness and long-term outcomes are important for successful integration of remote monitoring technologies into routine hepatitis and liver care. By leveraging their strengths and overcoming limitations, we can create a future where all patients receive timely and effective hepatitis management.
