Analysis of the Effect of Freight Forwarding Practices on the Efficiency of Cargo Handling Operations

The research findings on the analysis of the effect of freight forwarding practices on the efficiency of cargo handling operations were analyzed based on the data from the socio-economic background of the company staffs and the effects of freight forwarding practices on the efficiency of cargo handling operations in apapa port was also studied. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
The results of the findings revealed the predominant male population over the female population in the company. The overall data collected on the age range of the respondents revealed that the company had more professionals with between 36-45 years. The respondents were majorly university degree holders. Majority of the respondents were freight forwarders. The overall data collected on the years of service of the respondents revealed that majority of the company staffs have been working there for 6-10 years. Furthermore, the respondent ‘strongly agree’ that freight forwarding practice has influence on the efficiency of the cargo handling operations and rated the service efficiency of the freight forwarders as good. However, the data revealed that majority of the respondent rate their level of satisfaction as ‘generally good’. The respondents also ‘agree’ that technology strategy is a factor influencing the operations of freight forwarders and also ‘strongly agree’ that inadequate cargo handling equipment is a major factor. Majority of the respondents agreed that the freight forwarders affect the level of port efficiency, freight forwarding practices has effect on the bottleneck or delays in port and also that cargo handlers have an impact on the delays in ports.
