Developing a Comprehensive Adolescent Protection Index: Frameworks and Challenges in the Vietnamese Context
Author(s): Nguyen Ngoc Trung
Abstract:
The "Building an Adolescent Protection Index" document provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the protection of adolescents in Vietnam. It addresses various socio-economic and psychological challenges that adolescents face, including urbanization, migration, family structure changes, and the pressures of academic competition. The study highlights the significance of legal, psychological, and sociological theories in constructing an index that measures adolescent well-being across domains such as education, health, and social integration. It also examines international best practices, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among families, communities, and institutions to provide a protective environment for adolescents. The index seeks to offer a standardized tool to assess the levels of care and protection afforded to adolescents, accounting for multiple factors such as income inequality, digital transformation, and societal changes. By integrating insights from various disciplines, the document underscores the importance of comprehensive support systems that involve both governmental and non-governmental organizations in ensuring the rights and well-being of adolescents are upheld. Furthermore, it calls for the use of this index as both an evaluative and an interventional tool, promoting timely support for at-risk adolescents in diverse settings.
