Abstract:
This interconnectedness of globalized market has necessitated the seamless flow of information and communication across diverse languages and cultures. As a result, the translation industry plays a crucial role in bridging these linguistic divides, facilitating understanding, and fostering collaboration. The translation industry has demonstrated a dynamic evolution, adjusting to technology advancements and shifting worldwide needs. Thus, with the major changes brought about by globalisation technology, a translator practising his profession must keep up with the world trend. This is because some translators just limit themselves to using dictionaries to find the right words and phrases in context. Few translators use electronic translation tools; translation therefore has many advantages, even if the complexity of its nature still requires the human touch. Therefore, this study examined the current state of translation in today’s world by focusing on the relevance of translation technology tools as a catalyst to transform the translation industry for global impact. The study adopts the Computational linguistics (CL) theory as its theoretical framework because of its practical impact on the usability of translation tools and techniques. With a quantitative and qualitative methods, data were analyzed using relevant descriptive statistical tools which included frequency count, simple percentage and a holistic discussion of findings in line with the objectives of the study. The study therefore revealed that, globalisation has significant effect on the emergence of technological tools for translation in the 21st century. The study recommends that policy makers in homogenous culture and linguistic nations should invest in the training and retraining of professional translators in the use of technological tools.
