Abstract:
Marchantia paleacea grows mainly in humid places and is widespread in mountainous areas in Indonesia. According to several studies, this species contains bioactive compounds that can be used as antimicrobials. This study aims to determine the effect of Marchantia paleacea extract on Klebsiella pneumoniae. The method used in this research is the Kirby-Bauer well diffusion method. The research was carried out by giving eight treatments, namely A (0.1 mg/mL), B (0.2 mg/mL), C (0.4 mg/mL), D (0.6 mg/mL), E (0.8 mg/mL), F (1 mg/mL), Aquades (negative control), and ciprofloxacin (positive control). The best average results for the clear zone diameter parameter of Klebsiella pneumoniae were found at concentrations of 0.4 mg/mL, 0.6 mg/ml, and 0.8 mg/ml. Marchantia paleacea extract can inhibit the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae, but its effectiveness is low. Further research is needed on Marchantia paleacea extract at higher doses or using pure extract for better results.
