The Preamble as the Mirror of the Indian Constitution: A Study of its Philosophy, Objectives, and Constitutional Significance

Abstract:
The Constitution is a supreme or fundamental law of a country which reflects the fundamental principal and rules that establishes the structure of government, defines the powers and duties of its institutions and guarantees the rights and freedoms of citizens. The present Indian constitution was framed by the Constituent Assembly of India set up under Cabinet mission plan of May 16, 1946. Constituent Assembly took 2 years 11 months 18 days to complete the constitution. It is the biggest constitution in the world. The constitution of India has been amended many times. Originally it had 395 articles and 8 schedules. At present there are 447 articles and 12 schedules. It was finally passed and accepted on November 26, 1949 and came into effected on January 26, 1950 and celebrated as the Republic Day of India. A distinguishing feature of the Constitution is its Preamble. It encapsulates the core constitutional philosophy and serves as a concise statement of the aspirations of the Indian people.
