Abstract:
Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have garnered increasing attention as potential tools for stress reduction in diverse populations. This comprehensive review synthesizes the existing literature to evaluate the efficacy of MBIs in mitigating stress-related outcomes. The theoretical framework delineates the core principles of mindfulness and explores cognitive and psychological mechanisms underlying stress reduction. A meticulous methodology, focusing on randomized controlled trials and recent meta-analyses, guides the review. The empirical studies examined cover various mindfulness approaches, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, providing a nuanced understanding of their impact. Aggregate findings highlight consistent stress reduction outcomes across diverse populations, while subgroup analyses elucidate variations in efficacy based on intervention duration and intensity. Mechanisms and moderators of efficacy, encompassing cognitive processes and individual differences, further inform the review. Despite promising results, challenges such as methodological limitations and external validity concerns are acknowledged. The implications for clinical practice emphasize the integration of MBIs into mental health care, providing recommendations for professionals and outlining potential future directions. This review contributes to the evolving discourse on mindfulness as a stress reduction strategy, offering insights for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers in the pursuit of effective and accessible interventions for stress management.
