Abstract:
The retail sector faces mounting pressure to reconcile growth ambitions with environmental sustainability amidst escalating resource constraints and climate concerns. This paper develops a comprehensive circular business model designed to enable environmentally responsible growth in retail operations. Grounded in circular economy principles, the model integrates key components such as product lifecycle management, circular supply chain innovations, and customer engagement to foster resource efficiency, waste reduction, and closed-loop systems. It emphasizes strategic drivers, including leadership commitment, technological integration, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, which collectively enable effective implementation and scalability. The model not only addresses critical environmental challenges but also enhances operational resilience and competitive differentiation by aligning sustainability with business strategy. Furthermore, it highlights the role of supportive policy frameworks and collaborative networks in accelerating circular adoption. The study concludes by identifying future pathways for circular innovation through emerging technologies, evolving consumer behaviors, and regulatory evolution. This framework provides retail leaders, policymakers, and researchers with a practical and strategic roadmap to transition toward sustainable, inclusive, and resilient retail ecosystems that balance economic performance with ecological stewardship.
