Abstract:
Three secondary metabolites, including methyl 3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzoate (1), eriodictyol (2) and bergenin (3) were isolated from the ethylacetate fraction of the methanol extract of the stem bark of Sacoglottis gabonensis (Baill.) Urb. (Humiriaceae). When evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against the mouse lymphoma cell line L5178Y (10 µgml-1), only 2and 3showed weak activity with a growth inhibitory effect of 27.3 and 15.2%, respectively.
